The Warwickshire town of Nuneaton is located nine miles north of Coventry on the banks of the River Anker and is home to just over 72,000 inhabitants.
As a result of heavy bombing during the Second World War targeting the town's munitions factory, Nuneaton's town centre had to be substantially rebuilt in the post-war years.
Historically an industrial centre, the town has in recent times become an important commuter town for both nearby Coventry and Birmingham, although major industries such as distribution and electronics still provide large amounts of employment in Nuneaton. Other important businesses that are based in and around the town include the Motor Industry Research Association and health food chain Holland and Barrett.
Due to projects such as the giant Ropewalk Shopping Centre, opened in 2005, the town has successfully transformed itself into a thriving retail centre for the area.
